AIWT in Malaysia: A Cultural Exchange to Remember

Last week, the AIWT team traded the Perth chill for the tropical warmth of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, all in the name of cultural exchange, connection, and collaboration.

Over four jam-packed days, we shared laughs, swapped stories, met with international partners, and soaked up Malaysia’s rich history and vibrant energy. Here’s a look behind the scenes of our AIWT Cultural Exchange Trip, a journey of learning, growth, and unforgettable memories.

The Adventure Begins

It was an early start, 4:30am to be exact, and we hit the tarmac bright-eyed and (mostly) on time… well, some of us cut it a little fine (you know who you are).

From the moment we landed, the excitement was real. This wasn’t just a trip, it was a chance to live and breathe the values we talk about every day at AIWT: connection, community, and cross-cultural understanding.

Exploring Malaysia’s Culture & History

Our first day was all about immersion. We climbed the colourful steps of the Batu Caves, stood beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, and wandered the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur.

From temples to towers, from spicy street eats to deep cultural traditions, every experience was a reminder of how valuable cultural understanding is, both in education and beyond.

As a multicultural organisation with students from all over the world, moments like these remind us why diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

Strengthening Partnerships

Our trip wasn’t all sightseeing (although that was definitely a highlight!). We also spent time connecting with our international agents and partners, building even stronger relationships that will support our future students.

These in-person connections are incredibly important to us, they help ensure students across the globe receive the same friendly, genuine support that AIWT is known for in Perth.

Workshops, Team Building & Big Ideas

One of the best parts of the trip? A full training day in KL, where we rolled up our sleeves for team workshops, reflections, and future planning. Yes, we actually built a replica of the Petronas Towers using sticks and rubber bands (and yes, it was surprisingly competitive). But we also talked big-picture goals, shared ideas across departments, and worked together on plans for an exciting 2026 and beyond.

A Celebration of Culture, Connection and Growth

Trips like this aren’t just about travel, they’re about understanding where we come from, who we serve, and where we’re going together.

At AIWT, we’re proud to be a truly multicultural training organisation. This trip gave us the chance to celebrate that in a real, meaningful way, not just in our classrooms, but on the other side of the world too.
